Former Baseball Golden Eagle Jeff Cook Named To Conference USA’s All-Decade Team

Jeff Cook was named to Conference USA's All-Decade Team today.

HATTIESBURG, Miss.— Former Golden Eagle baseball player Jeff Cook was named to Conference USA’s All-Decade Team, the league office announced today. Conference USA is celebrating its 10th anniversary during the 2004-05 season, and in conjunction, the league has named a Team of the Decade for each of the conference’s 19 sports.

Cook, a three-time All-Conference USA selection and the 2003 Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year, played at Southern Miss from 2000-2003. He was named to five All-American teams, and was named to the 2003 All-C-USA Tournament Team.

He helped lead Southern Miss to a school record 47-16 record, including a 25-7 mark in Conference USA, as the Golden Eagles claimed the 2003 C-USA regular season and tournament titles. That season, Southern Miss also hosted the school’s first ever NCAA Regional, as Cook earned All-Hattiesburg Regional honors.

Cook was a five time Conference USA Hitter of the Week selection and tabbed National Hitter of the Week three times by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA.

In 2003, Cook tied for the league lead in home runs (23, 2003). He ranks in Conference USA career Top 10 in RBIs, home runs and total bases and is in the top 15 in hits and runs scored.

Cook was selected in the fifth round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is currently playing Class A Advanced Landcaster JetHawks, hitting .287, with five home runs, three triples, seven doubles, 28 RBI and 27 runs scored.
