Baseball’s Marc Maddox Named To 2005 First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
HATTIESBURG, Miss.— Southern Miss junior first baseman Marc Maddox was named for the second year in a row to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team, today, as selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). He advances to the national ballot where the membership will vote for the Academic All-American team.
Maddox, a first-team selection last season, has a 3.77 grade point average with a major in business administration. He was a Conference USA Academic Medalist, a member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for two years and a three-year selection to the Forrest General Scholar Athlete team. He also was named to the President’s List at Southern Miss and Dean’s List for four semesters.
Maddox is currently hitting .338 with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 14 stolen bases, 37 walks and 44 RBIs. He has a .452 on-base percentage and a .574 slugging percentage. He also is tied for the team in lead in runs scored with 58.
In Conference USA statistics, he is ranked among the top 10 in hits, slugging percentage, runs scored, on-base percentage, home runs, total bases, walks, stolen bases and fielding putouts.
Southern Miss hosts USF for a Conference USA weekend series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field on Friday – Sunday, May 13-15. Friday’s game starts at 7:30 p.m., Saturday’s at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
