The Siena College Softball opened its season in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. this weekend, dropping four games. Freshman Gretchen Gurr, sophomore Carrie Getz and Mary Buckheit enjoyed fine offensive performance in the initial weekend of play.

The Saints opened play on Saturday, falling to Binghamton 8-4 and Colgate 4-3. Gurr went 3-for-4 in her first collegiate game against Binghamton batting in the third slot of the Saints' batting order. Just hours later, she went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a the loss to Colgate.

Getz had four bunt singles on the Saints' opening day of action. Buckheit came on strong on Sunday, driving in three runs as the Saints lost to Florida A & M (10-5) and Towson (13-5). The trio each owns batting averages over .460 after the first four games.

The 17 runs in the four games is a positive sign for the Saints which averaged just over three runs per game last season.
