Women's Hoops: Four Saints Earn Academic All-MAAC Honors

Michelle Blot, Whitney Cave, Rachel Michalek and Lauren Surber represent the Siena women's basketball team on the 2005 New York Lottery MAAC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, as announced by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference today

Blot a junior from Colonie, NY, majoring in marketing/management. She is one of two players who have started in all 27 Saints games this season, and ranks fourth on the Siena squad with 211 points (7.8 ppg).

Cave is a junior from Portland, Ore, majoring in mathematics. She ranks as the all time rebounder this season with 236 boards and has tallied 234 points (8.7 ppg). Cave stands at No. 2 in the MAAC regular season with 10.4 rpg.

Michalek is a sophomore from Buffalo, NY, majoring in Business. Michalek, a reserve off the bench averaged 1.9 .ppg, shooting 13-of-44 from the floor (30 percent). She has averaged 9.2 minutes per game in 24 appearances this season.

Surber is a senior from West Sayville, NY, majoring in English education. She has notched 220 (8.1 ppg) points and 133 rebounds (4.9 rpg) this season, while starting in 25 games, but played 27.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Saint Peter's led all schools with five members named to the team. Canisius and Siena both had four student-athletes on the team, followed by Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Niagara and Rider who all had three members. Loyola had two student-athletes named to the team and Fairfield had one member.
