Men's Soccer Comeback Again Falls Short In 3-2 Loss To Canisius

Oct. 23, 2005

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - In identical fashion to their previous game, Siena (3-10-1, 1-3-1) fell behind by three on the road before storming back with two unanswered goals in a 3-2 loss to Canisius (2-10-2, 1-4-0) in MAAC action under rainy cold conditions in Buffalo, N.Y., this afternoon.

Trailing by three, the Saints broke in the scoring column in the 70th minute. Sophomore Thomas Ciovacco (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rattled off a shot that was blocked by the Canisius defense, the rebound found its way to Mike DeSimone (Clifton Park, N.Y.) who blasted a shot from the right side that found its way to the back of the net.

The freshman also helped set up the Saints other goal of the day. With just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, DeSimone managed to head a pass inside the box to a slashing junior Michael Battiste. The Niskayuna, N.Y., native found a hole and fired home his second goal of the season. DeSimone finished with three points in the game which brings his season total to six.

The Green and Gold fired eight shots on goal for the second straight game and allowed six shots by Canisius. The Saints shots were spread out coming from six different players.

Siena held a distinct advantage in corner kicks, 10-2.

For Canisius, Rudy Pikuzinski had a breakout game in scoring the first two goals of the game and setting up the eventual game winner. The two goals were the first of the season for Pikuzinski.

The Green and Gold next travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to play rival Marist on Oct. 29. Siena next returns home on Nov. 4 as they host the Iona Gaels with a 2 p.m. start time.
