Saint Peter's Rallies Past Siena 80-76

Feb. 15, 2005

Box Score

Keydren Clark, the nation's leading scorer, scored 26 points to lead Saint Peter's to an 80-76 win over Siena in Albany Tuesday night. Clark's effort offset a career night by Siena's Brent Sniezyk who scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Just as they had less than a month ago, the Peacocks rallied from a massive second half deficit to spoil Siena's upset bid. Sniezyk had already obtained his career high by halftime, scoring 17 points before the intermission as Siena raced to a 47-39 lead at the break.

The Saints started the second half on a 10-2 run to seize a 57-41 lead, and apparent control of the game. But the Peacocks scored the next 14 points of the game, nine of which came on 3-pointers from wingman Corey Hinnant who finished with 16 points. After Siena pushed the lead back to seven, 67-60, on a Jack McClinton jumper, Saint Peter's made its decisive run.

Ron Yates scored two of his 17 points with a driving layup to close the gap to 67-66, and after McClinton made a pair of free throws, Clark answered with a contested three to tie the game at 69-69.

Kaimondre Owes gave the Peacocks their first lead of the second half, 73-72, with two free throws at the 4:23 mark, and the visitors would never trail again.

Clark scored Saint Peter's next five points as the Peacocks spread the floor to let him work. Tommy Mitchell's layup cut the lead to its final margin 80-76 with 1:26 left, but Siena failed to convert on any of its final three possessions.

McClinton scored 16 points in defeat, nine from the foul line. Tay Fisher added 11.

Sniezyk smashed his previous career high of 14 set 13 days ago at Canisius, and equaled his career mark for rebounds (set the same day) with 13.

Saint Peter's had rallied from a 20-point deficit in Jersey City in a 62-59 win over Siena January 24.

Siena continues its season-long four-game homestand Friday against Marist at 7 p.m.
