Rushing game leads Hawks to win over Campbellsville, 28-7

Campbellsville, Ky. - The Shorter College Hawks football team (3-1, 1-0) won their first conference game of the season, 28-7, against the Campbellsville Tigers (0-3, 0-1) in Campbellsville, Ky. on Saturday evening (Sept. 22).

The Hawks got on the board early in the first as A.J. Cooley made a one-yard carry for a 7-0 lead. Shorter's Pierre Toran would do the same with 13:06 left in the half to put the Hawks up 14-0 at halftime.

Toran scored six more for the Hawks in the third on a two-yard carry and the Tigers would come into the fourth scoring their only points of the game on a 20-yard pass from Blake Lawyer to Sean Thompson. Another Cooley carry for the Hawks, followed by a two-point conversion, would end the game, Shorter ahead 28-7.

The Hawks compiled 366 rushing yards on 61 carries in the day's contest. Raymone Nesbitt led the Hawks with 106 yards, followed by Cooley with 96.

Quarterback Drew Elrod was 7-for-11 with 81 yards in the passing column.
