Rome, Ga. - The Hawks basketball team (4-1, 0-0) continued to add to the win column on Tuesday night as they beat the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (0-2, 0-0), 84-80, in front of a lively Winthrop-King Centre crowd. Jairus Jackson led the way for the Hawks in the first half as he shot 100% across the board with two three pointers, for 10 points. Shorter shot .762 on field goals as a team in the first twenty minutes, to lead 45-38. In the second half, things took a shaky turn for the Hawks. With 13 minutes left, the Bulldogs took their first lead in a three-point shot to go up 53-52. It as short lived, however, as the Hawks found their way back into it, trading the lead with Tennessee Wesleyan to force a tie game at 74, to start overtime. Shorter scored 10 to the Bulldogs' 6 to win their fourth game of the season in dramatic fashion, 84-80. Kedric Wilson led the way for the Hawks with 21 points followed by team captain Jackson with 15 points. Rebounds were a game changer for Shorter, who was led by A.J. Martin with seven (two offensive, five defensive). Zach Gulmire was the lead scorer for Tennessee Wesleyan with 17 points, and Tyler Gaskin had 15 points. The Hawks travel to the Cumberlands Tournament this weekend, and will start with Edward Waters College on Friday. |
