Rome, Ga. - The Shorter College Hawks nearly upset the undefeated Lee University Flames on Saturday evening at Shorter's Winthrop-King Centre, as the Hawks lost 79-72. This is the first of two meetings the teams have this season. In the first half, Shorter trailed by 11 and scored eight unanswered points to pull within two, in part to two three-pointers from Tomas Pranciliauskas, who had 16 points in the first half. In the second, Shorter pulled ahead at 49-46 after an offensive streak by the Hawks. Lee pulled back ahead several minutes later but the offensive attack from Pranciliauskas and Kedric Wilson kept the game close until the end. Pranciliauskas led all scorers with 23 points. Wilson followed for the Hawks with 18, and A.J. Martin had a double-digit night with 15 points. Lee's Joe Fulp led the way for the Flames with 19 points. The Shorter Hawks continue action at home on Thursday night as they take on cross-town rival Berry College at 8 p.m. |
