Southeast Volleyball Drops Another at Tournament
Sept. 5, 2003 For the second weekend in a row the Southeast Missouri State volleyball team will face difficult competition. Friday afternoon the Otahkians squared off against the Phoenix from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at the Indiana University Tournament. Southeast, now 0-5 on the season, lost the game 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 34-32). Despite the three-game loss, Southeast had some strong performers in the match. Senior setter Emily Scannell had a typically strong game as she had 34 assists. She was just one kill short of scoring a double-double. Suzanne Gundlach and Jill Miller were strong defensively as they had 15 and 12 digs, respectively. Jessica Koeper had 9 kills for a .350 average, and Danielle Pegram had 8 kills for a .400 percentage. Although Southeast is off to a slow start, it is nothing new to them. Last season the squad lost four of its first five, yet finished the season with an outstanding 22-11 record. The tough competition early on may prove to strengthen Southeast later in the season. Southeast will play Indiana and IUPUI tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Indiana University Tournament. |
