Soccer Still In The Hunt

Oct. 19, 2006

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - With the top three teams in the Ohio Valley Conference all in Alabama for the final weekend of the regular season, second place Southeast Missouri State needs wins over Jacksonville State and Samford and an Eastern Illinois tie with Samford to claim the 2006 regular season title.

The Redhawks, 4-2-1 in the OVC, will play at Jacksonville State on Friday, 7 p.m. and at Samford, 5-0-2, on Sunday, 2 p.m. Eastern Illinois, 3-0-4, and in third place plays at Samford on Friday and at Jacksonville State on Sunday.

"It should be exciting," said Southeast coach Heather Nelson. "I feel good about our team and how we are playing, we just have to finish off our scoring opportunities. We have been controlling play, but we haven't been taking advantage of the scoring opportunities we are creating."

The regular season winner will host the OVC tournament semi-finals and finals, Nov. 3 and Nov. 5. The play-in games will be on Oct. 31. Southeast has already clinched a spot in the tournament, but when and where they play will be determined this weekend.
