Soccer Hits The Road This Weekend for Two OVC Matches

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer hits the road for its final two Ohio Valley Conference road contests of the season this weekend starting tomorrow afternoon at Murray State with kickoff set for 3 p.m. The Redhawks conclude the weekend Sunday afternoon at Tennessee-Martin starting at 2 p.m. Southeast is currently 8-2-1 on the season and has a 5-0 ledger in OVC play. The Redhawks closed a three-match homestand on Oct. 12 with a 4-2 victory over Eastern Illinois. Freshman forward Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) has produced a team-best nine goals and 21 points, while senior Alaina Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) and sophomore Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) are tied for the team lead in assists with six helpers apiece. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) has amassed a team-high 49 saves and a 0.91 goals against average. Murray State brings a 9-6 overall record, including a 4-2 conference ledger, into Friday's showdown with the Redhawks. The Racers extended their winning streak to four after winning a pair of road contests over Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech by identical 2-1 margins last weekend. Junior forward Rebekah Clay leads Murray with six goals and four assists, while junior forward Krista Muilkens ranks second on the team with four goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Tara Isbell has notched a team-best 43 saves and two shutouts on the year. Tennessee-Martin enters the weekend with an 8-4-2 mark that includes a 3-1-2 mark versus OVC competition. Last weekend, the Skyhawks battled Tennessee Tech to a 0-0 tie before handing Austin Peay a 1-0 loss two days later. Senior midfielder/forward Katie Behrens leads UTM with six goals and five assists, while junior Johanna Rathbun leads the Skyhawks with 39 saves and four shutouts in addition to posting a 7-2-2 record in goal. Southeast concludes the regular season at home next weekend with a pair of OVC matches, beginning Oct. 26 against Jacksonville State with a start time of 7 p.m. Prior to the JSU match will be a senior night ceremony honoring the seven seniors on this year's Redhawk squad. |
