Simonhoff Named National Specialist of the Week
Nov. 15, 2005 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - For the second straight week, Southeast Missouri State University All-America punter David Simonhoff has been honored as the National Special Teams Player of the Week. Simonhoff, who was also selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for two straight weeks, was selected as this week's National Player of the Week by The Sports Network. He averaged 44 yards per punt in Saturday's win over Tennessee State. Simonhoff had three punts inside the 20 and two punts of over 50 yards. His 54-yard punt in the fourth quarter was dead at the Tiger five yard line. The prior week, Simonhoff was selected as the National Special Teams Player of the Week by the Football Digest. Against Tennessee-Martin, he had seven punts for an average of 45.7 yards per punt with three punts of over 50 yards with a long of 60. Simonhoff was also honored as the OVC Specialist of the Week after the Samford game when he averaged 52 yards per punt with a long of 80 yards. He has four punts of 80 or more yards during his career at Southeast. Currently leading the OVC and ranking seventh nationally in punting, Simonhoff was a consensus preseason All-American. Last season he was a second team All-America pick when he ranked second nationally in punting with a Southeast and OVC record of 46 yards per punt. Simonhoff and the Redhawks will close the 2005 season on Saturday at Tennessee Tech. The kickoff will be at 1 p.m. |
