Two Redhawks Earn Conference Honors
Nov. 7, 2005 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (November 7, 2005) Two Southeast football players have been honored as Players of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference. Linebacker Seth Harrell was named Defensive Player of the Week while punter David Simonhoff was named Specialist Player of the Week for the second time this season. A junior linebacker from Jackson, Mo., Harrell recorded a game-high 18 tackles in Saturday's contest at Tennessee-Martin, with 14 of them coming unassisted. His 18 tackles is the most by an OVC defender this season. Harrell also recorded one tackle for a loss of two yards. Harrell currently is second on the team this season with 35 solo tackles. He has recorded 49 total tackles, good for third on the team, and three stops for a loss including two sacks. The linebacker is also responsible for two defensive turnovers, recording an interception and a fumble recovery this season.
All-American punter David Simonhoff was named Player of the Week for the second time this season after previously being honored for his performance in the game against Samford. In the Redhawks' 24-21 loss at UT Martin on Saturday, Simonhoff averaged 45.7 yards per punt on seven punts. The junior out of Coral Gables, Fla. recorded a long of 60 yards along with three other kicks of 50 yards or more. Currently, Simonhoff leads the OVC and ranks seventh in the nation with a punt average of 42.4 yards per punt this season. In 2005, he has boomed an OVC-best season long punt of 80 yards and also pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line eleven times.
Harrell and Simonhoff will lead the Redhawks this weekend as Southeast will take on Tennessee State on Saturday, 1 p.m. at Houck Stadium.
