Roy Booker Selected in USBL Draft

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday, April 14, 2006) - Former Redhawks men's basketball standout Roy Booker was selected by the Kansas Cagerz in the second round of the United State Basketball League (USBL) Draft. Booker was selected with the fourth pick in the second round and 12th overall pick in the eight-team USBL.

Booker, a 6-3 guard, was a 2nd-Team All-OVC selection this past season as he led the league and ranked nationally in scoring with an average of 22.0 points per game. It was the only season that the Portageville, Missouri native played for the Redhawks as he previously played at Montana.

The USBL is a league that was created to showcase players for the upcoming NBA Draft. The USBL begins play on April 21 with the Cagerz first game set for April 29 at home against the Nebraska Cranes.

The Cagerz are play their home games in Salina, Kansas at the Bicentennial Center and are coached by Francis Flax and assisted by former NBA player Cliff Levingston.

The Cagerz selected Wichita State Shocker standout Paul Miller with their first selection. Syracuse star Gerry McNamara was selected by the NEPA Breakers with the first overall selection.
