Will Bogan Tip In Gives Southeast 81-80 Win Over Jacksonville State

Jacksonville, Ala. - Freshman Will Bogan tipped in a rebound basket with 1.9-seconds remaining to give Southeast Missouri State an 81-80 Ohio Valley Conference road win at Jacksonville State. The Redhawks, 4-0 and in sole possession of first place in the OVC, jumped to an early 25-5 lead in the game, but the Gamecocks battled back to trail by only three points at the half and led for most of the second half. Behind the three-point shooting of freshman J.J. Wesley who was 8-15 from behind the arc for a game-high 28 points, the Gamecocks took the lead with 17:22 remaining on a three by Wesley and held the lead until the final minutes. Southeast never trailed by more than eight points and regained the lead at 77-75 with 1:30 remaining on a 3-pointer by Jaycen Herring. Jacksonville State took the lead at 78-77 on a 3-pointer by Wesley but Rod Pearson answered with a short jumper to put the Redhawks up 79-78 with 56-seconds remaining. With 12-seconds remaining, NicMurphy scored on a drive down the middle that put the Gamecocks up 80-79. After a time out with six-seconds remaining, the Redhawks worked the ball to Herring who had his shot partially blocked. Bogan, 6-10, 300, rebounded the miss and put it back in with 1.9 seconds remaining to give the Redhawks their second straight one-point road victory. Bogan led Southeast scorers with 17 points while Herring had 14, Marcus Rhodes 13 and Calvin Williams 10. Rhodes led Southeast rebounders with seven. Jacksonville State got 28 points from Wesley while Murphy added 14, DeAndre Bray 10 and Erik Adams 10. The Gamecocks are now 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the OVC. Southeast, 8-4 overall, continues on the road for a non-conference game at Tulsaon Saturday. The Redhawks and Golden Hurricanes will tip off at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa. |
