Tennessee-Martin Tops Southeast to Close the Season

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) - Jared Newson scored 20 points in Tennessee Martin's 88-71 victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday night.

The Indians (11-16, 4-12 Ohio Valley Conference) offered little resistance until Tennessee Martin played its bench in the last five minutes, allowing Southeast Missouri to pull closer after a 73-38 deficit, the largest lead of the game, that came midway through the second half.

The Skyhawks (10-18, 5-11) took a 66-32 lead on a six minute, 15-4 run capped at 13 minutes by a Chris Carter tip-in.

Tennessee Martin was outscored 45-40 in the second half.

Kenan Asceric finished with his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Cleve Woodfork scored 15 points, Jeremy Kelly 14, Carter 11 and Will Lewis added 10.

Reggie Golson led Southeast Missouri with 17 points, Brett Hale 15, Demarcus Hence 14 and Derek Winans added 12.
