Men's Hoop Crushes Tennessee-Martin, 72-52

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Saturday, February 26, 2005) - Southeast Missouri State pulled away in the second half to post a 72-52 Ohio Valley Conference win over Tennessee-Martin.

The Redhawks, 14-13 overall and 9-7 in the OVC, led 26-25 at the half and after UT-Martin took the lead early in the second half, Southeast went on top for good with 14:37 to go when Dainmon Gonner connected on a 12-footer to put the Redhawks up 36-35. Gonner led all scorers with 24 points as he finished the regular season as the top scorer in the OVC. Reggie Golson added 15 points and four rebounds while Derek Winans had 12.

The Skyhawks, 6-21 overall and 3-13 in the OVC, were led by Jared Newson with 19 points while Cleve Woodfork added 18.

Southeast enters OVC post-season tournament play on Tuesday night at Murray State. The Redhawks and Racers split two regular season games with Southeast winning at Murray.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the OVC semi-finals in Nashville on Friday.
