Tennessee Tech Comes From Behind to Beat Redhawks 87-80

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Tennessee State battled back from a 12 point halftime deficit to defeat Southeast Missouri State 87-80 in an Ohio Valley Conference game. The Redhawks, 7-13 overall and 5-6 in the OVC, hit their first three 3-pointers to jump to an early 9-0 lead and led by as many as 16 points in the first half when they connected on 7-16 treys. Southeast was also 7-7 from the free throw line during the opening stanza and went to the dressing room leading 46-34. Tennessee Tech, 10-9 overall and 6-4 in the OVC, started the second half on a 9-0 run to get back in the game and took the lead 62-60 with 7:56 remaining and never again trailed. Southeast did tie the game a 77-77 with 3:11 remaining, but could never take the lead. David Johnson led Southeast with a career high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Rembert had 16 points and six rebounds while Brandon Foust had 15 points. Tennessee Tech was led by Anthony Fisher with 22 points while Amadi McKenzie added 20 and Belton Rivers 19. The Golden Eagles hit 31-39 free throws and sealed the win with good free throw shooting down the stretch. Southeast plays at Morehead State on Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., before returning to the Show Me Center next Saturday, Jan. 27, to go against Murray State. |
