Nashville, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri State dropped a close 68-63 decision to Tennessee State and lost guard Eric Burtin for the remainder of the season with a broken leg.

Burtin was injured going for a rebound with 2:45 remaining in the game. He was scheduled to undergo surgery late Thursday night at Skyline Medical Center. Burtin had started the last six games and appeared in all 16 games this season. He averaged 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

The Redhawks trailed 35-27 at the half, but battled back behind the scoring of Roy Booker to tie the game at 50-50 with 9:07 remaining. Booker finished the night with 27 points to give him 60 points in the last two games.

Tennessee State regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Reiley Ervin and never trailed down the stretch. The Redhawks pulled within three and had the ball with under 30-seconds remaining, but could not hit the big shot.

Southeast is 6-10 overall and 3-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference while Tennessee State improved to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in the OVC. The Redhawks play at league leading Tennessee Tech on Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
