Sept. 21, 2005
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Wednesday September 21, 2005) Southeast Missouri State has their second race of the season this weekend in Louisville, Ky. The Greater Louisville Classic will feature 55 men's and 49 women's teams competing on Saturday morning. This is the highest number of teams the Classic has ever hosted. Because of the number of teams the races will be split up into four morning races.
Last year the women's team finished second, out of the six division one schools, to Georgia State who beat them by only four points. In the overall scores the women finished first out of 38 teams. The women had three top 20 finishers in the 357 person race. Two of them return to race this year, OVC Runner of the Week Lindsay Zeiler and senior Jen Caywood. Others running for the women are Juli Koenegstein, Hannah Korte, Brittni Peck, Sarah Verelst, and Amy Warren. The women start their race at 10:15 a.m. (EST), or 9:15 a.m. (CST).
The mens team looks to improve upon their finish of seventh, out of eight division one schools, in last years Greater Louisville Classic. Senior Gabe Lutes finished 59 out of 397 last year and hopes to finish higher in order for the men's team to finish higher in the overall points leaderboard. Other men that are racing this weekend are Brad DeMattei, Chris Herren, Cory Huskey, Brandon Karchner, Kevin McNab, Mark McNamara, Kirk Nesbit, and Danny Stults. The men start the classic at 9:30 a.m. (EST), or 8:30 a.m. (CST).
The Redhawk's cross country teams will compete against conference rivals Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, and Morehead State. The Greater Louisville Classic starts at 8:30 a.m. central time on Saturday, September 24. The results will be posted on gosoutheast.com.
