CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday October 03, 2005) For the first time this year neither the men or the women finished in the top 20 in their respective divisions. The men finished Saturday's race with 585 points to give them a 23rd place finish in the 28 team race. The women had 617 points and finished at 24 out of 28 teams.
The men's team was once again led by senior Gabe Lutes. Lutes had a time of 26:40 and finished at 126. Right behind Lutes was Chris Herren finishing at 128 with a time of 26:42. Other runners on the men's team were Danny Stults (139th 26:56), Brad DeMattei (155 27:17), Kirk Nesbit (162 27:25), Cory Huskey (214 28:20), and Mark McNamara (239 29:13). There were a total of 270 runners in the men's division.
OVC runner of the week Jen Caywood paced the women's team with a time of 18:41 and finished at 42. The next women's finisher was Juli Keonegstein at 141 with a time of 19:54, followed by Brittni Peck with a time of 19:59 and a finish of 147. Other women's runners were Hannah Korte (194 20:30), Amy Warren (195 20:31), and Sarah Verelst (220 21:02). The women's division featured 274 participants.
OVC rival Eastern Kentucky finished seventh and 15th in the men's and women's division respectively. The Redhawks race again this Saturday in the Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational in Carbondale Ill.
