Southeast Track Teams Are Third and Fourth at Mississippi State

Starkville, Miss. - - The Southeast Missouri State women's track team finished third at the Bulldog Invitational at Mississippi State University while the Southeast men's team placed fourth in the six team men's competition.

Javelin thrower Lindsay Hearne had the only individual win for the Redhawks women with a throw of 135-3. Juli Koenegstein was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:05.58.

The Redhawks women scored 89 points to finish behind Mississippi State and Memphis.

The Southeast men, who tallied 53 points to finish behind Mississippi State, Memphis and Alabama, had first place finishes by John Berry in the long jump and the 4 X 400-meter relay team which was anchored by All-American Miles Smith.

Berry jumped 24-8 ¼ to win the long jump while the relay team of Chris Williams, David Reid, Chris Poindexter and Smith timed 3:10.00 to win the 4 X 400 relay.

Redhawks senior Natasha Fortenberry had a big day with a third place finish in the 400-meters and legs on the 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relay teams that each placed third.

Southeast will host the 26th annual Gatorade Classic on April 6 and 7 at the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex. The 12 team field will include Southeast, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Illinois State, Western Illinois and Southern Indiana will enter both men's and women's teams while Murray State will enter a women's team and Tennessee State a men's team.
