Redhawks Ready to Roll At Mississippi
March 29, 2007 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State men's and women's track and field teams will take part in the Mississippi State Invitational on Saturday, March 31, in Starkville, Miss. Field events will begin at 9 a.m., followed by all running events at noon. After several weeks of intensive training, the Redhawks are ready to transition from indoor to outdoor and look to outstanding performances. "We're looking forward to the outdoor season,' said Coach Joey Haines. "Mississippi usually has warm weather and is a great place for our athletes to compete. Everyone is excited and ready to run." The men's sprint team will be lead by All-American Miles Smith. Smith, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., suffered from a leg injury indoor. Following Smith will be teammate Chris Williams who has had impressive performances all season. Jumpers John Berry and Bilal Hammed will make strong contributions, followed by Brandon Colbert and Andy Croxford who will compete in the throws. Distance runners Brandon Karcher, Danny Stults and Paul Stemmerman will add depth in their respective events. The women's team should have several top performances in both running and field events. Natasha Fortenberry, Orie Ibe, and Precious Elliot have all been running well in their events and are looking forward top finishes. The women's distance team will add depth from performances by Brittni Peck, Sarah Velerst, and Juli Konegstein. Southeast will return home next week to host their annual Gatorade Classic on April 6-7 at the Abe Stuber Track Complex. Results from this weekend's meet will be available online at www.gosoutheast.cstv.com. |
