Aztecs Garner All-West Region Track and Field Honors

June 4, 2007

SAN DIEGO - Select San Diego State track and field regional qualifiers earned All-West Region honors for Division I outdoor track and field, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced last week. SDSU's athletes were recognized in eight events after numerous placed in the top eight in each of their respective events at the NCAA West Regionals in Oregon two weeks ago.

Sprinter Sherraine Pencil headlined the Aztec contingent after she earned all-region accolades in four events (200, 400, 4x100, 4x400), while Shana Solomon followed closely behind with three awards after her top-eight efforts in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay.

Other multiple all-West performers include Decontee Kaye (long jump, triple jump), Karoline Koehler (triple jump, 4x100), Nicole Stone (400, 4x400) and Mandy Upuu (800, 4x400).

Priscilla Chapu (4x400), Alicia Lowery (4x100) and Lisa Naucler (800) round out San Diego State's list of all-region honorees.

SDSU returns to the track on Wednesday, June 6, as it will travel Kaye, Koehler, Pencil, Solomon and Stone to Sacramento, Calif., for the NCAA Track and Field Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
