Coaching Staff
San Diego State head coach Deena Schmidt is in her 10th season as head coach of the SDSU Aztec swimming and diving program. The former Olympian, who won a gold as a member of the 400-medley relay team at the 1972 Olympics, is a 1988 graduate of San Diego State. Schmidt is assisted by Greg Hutt, also in his 10th season. Jim Wynne is in his second season as the Aztec diving coach. In addition, former Aztec all-conference swimmer Erin Kilpatrick will serve as a student assistant coach.

Last Time Out
San Diego State completed its regular season by defeating Cal Poly, 205-95, in a dual meet in San Luis Obispo on Jan. 31. Senior Hannah Ryan led the Aztecs with wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle events. SDSU swept four events including the 200 and 400 individual medleys plus the 200 and 500 freestyle races.

Aztecs Finish Season Strong
San Diego State ended its regular season by winning its final three dual meets and six of its last eight to post a record of 8-5 for the 2003-04 campaign. The eight wins were the second most in a season during head coach Deena Schmidt's 10 years at the helm of the program, and the team's won-loss percentage (.615) also ranks as the second-best of her tenure.

Ryan Wins Twice
Freestyle specialist Hannah Ryan turned in a pair of first-place finishes at the meet at Cal Poly at the end of January. She took first in both the 200 free (1:55.05) and 500 free (5:07.30). She holds the team's top times this season in the 200 and 500 freestyle, and the second-best marks in every other individual freestyle event (50, 100, 1000 and 1650). She has recorded SDSU all-time top five fastest times in four events as a senior: 200 free-2nd at 1:52.25; 500 free-4th at 4:59.41; 1,000 free-3rd at 10:21.88; and 1,650 free-5th at 17:31.69.

Minnich, Colvin Go One-Two
SDSU divers Lindsey Minnich and Shannon Colvin went one-two in both the one and three-meter diving events during the meet at Cal Poly. Colvin took first in the one-meter diving with Minnich second, and then they swapped places with Minnich winning the three-meter followed by Colvin.

Four Turn In Season Best Times
Four SDSU athletes established season bests in their respective events at the meet at Cal Poly on Jan. 31. That foursome included: Amy Osback (50 free-25.32, 100 free-54.62 and 100 butterfly-1:00.34), Caitlin Friedhoff (200 free-1:55.66), Megan Storey (200 buterfly-2:07.80) and Sylvia DelMoral (200 backstroke-2:12.55).

Among The Conference Top 10
Aztecs Megan Storey and Hannah Ryan have both recorded times that rank among the top 10s in four individual events in the Mountain West Conference this season. Storey has the second-best marks in the both the 1,000 and 1,650 free as well as the seventh-best mark in the 200 fly and 10th-best time in the 500 free. Ryan is third in the 200 free, second in the 500 free, seventh in the 1,000 free and fifth in the 1,650 free.

Karoly Named Swimmer of the Week
Freshman Stella Karoly became the second Aztec to earn conference Swimmer of the Week honors when she picked up the award after her performances at SDSU's meets at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine the weekend of Jan. 23-24. In those two dual meets, she picked up three individual wins, one second and a third place, setting five personal best times in the process. She also was a part of two relay wins. SDSU's other MWC Swimmer of the Week award went to senior Hannah Ryan, who earned the accolade after her performance in the dual meet against New Mexico last November.
