SDSU Swimming and Diving Defeats Cal Poly, Pepperdine
Jan. 27, 2006 SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team defeated host Cal Poly and Pepperdine in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Friday afternoon. The Aztecs (5-8) downed the host Cal Poly Mustangs, 220-77, and beat the Pepperdine Waves, 156-143. Junior Emily Parker won two both the 200 (1:56.57) and the 500 freestyle (5:12.77) to lead SDSU. Five other Aztecs won their individual events, including junior Stella Karoly in the 200 butterfly (2:09.24) and sophomores Lindsay Hnyda in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.78) and Katie Smith in the 200 backstroke (2:08.74). Freshmen Kendal Twilling (200 breast, 2:27.77) and Rosalie Raymond (1,000 free, 10:43.31) also picked up wins for SDSU. The 400 free relay of senior Samantha Peters, Karoly, senior Emily Schmied and junior Kimberlee Frith took first with a time of 3:36.88. Sophomore Joelle Felton finished second in the 3-meter diving competition with 238.25 points, while freshman Megan Flanagan was runner-up in the 1-meter event (228.2 pts.) The Aztecs will wrap up their regular season with a meet versus city-rival San Diego at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
