Women's Rowing Competes at S.D. Crew Classic
April 7, 2001
SAN DIEGO - Driving rain and strong winds caused over a four-hour delay in racing at Saturday's San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay. SDSU came away from the day with a fifth-place finish (6:47.20) in the second heat of the Jessop-Whittier Cup (varsity eight). That finish earned them a spot in Sunday's petite final. The Aztecs also clocked in sixth (7:39.63) in the second race of the junior varsity eight and third (7:49.07) behind California and Stanford in the first heat of novice eight competition. The regatta got a late start in the morning while race officials tried to remove large amounts of kelp from the race course. That put the schedule about 20 minutes behind from the start. Seventeen races were contested before racing was suspended because of the weather.
