Aztecs' Season Ends With 2-1 Loss To San Jose State

Nov. 14, 2003

Box Score

SACRAMENTO - San Diego State fell to the No. 1 seed San Jose State 2-1 in the MPSF semifinals on Friday night in Sacramento. The Aztecs fell behind 2-0, but Raul Bautista's second goal of the conference tournament cut the lead to one in the 55th minute. The Aztecs had several quality scoring chances down the stretch but the Hornets held on to advance to the championship match. SDSU finishes their most successful season since 1994 with a 9-8-3 record overall after posting a 2-2-2 mark and a fourth-place finish in the MPSF.

SJSU scored the first goal in the 38th minute and added its second goal eight minutes after halftime. Bautista responded less than two minutes later when he put a header into the back of the net off of a pass from Kenny Fechner. Fechner has recorded 10 assists on the season, the seventh highest total in SDSU history. Senior Colin Hanke finishes the season with 87 saves in net, which ranks fifth in Aztec annals.

The Aztecs posted more than twice as many wins than the 2002 season, after finishing last season 4-13-2.
