Aztec Golfers Finish Second In Mountain West Championship
SUNRIVER, Ore. -- For the second time in three seasons the San Diego State men's golf team has finished second in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Two Aztecs were named to the all-conference team named Saturday.
The Aztecs concluded the 2003 conference championship tournament with an even-par 864, including a 290 on Saturday, to finish nine strokes behind first-time champion New Mexico and in a tie with Brigham Young for second place. SDSU's Lars Johansson finished fourth in the individual competition. He was named to the all-conference team that included Aztec teammate Mark Warman. Johansson was one of just two seniors named to the 10-man, all-league team. The Aztecs are likely headed for NCAA regional competition after finishing second in a conference that includes five members of the nation's top 50. UNLV, ranked fifth nationally, finished four strokes behind San Diego State. The Aztecs entered the tournament ranked 29th by Golfstat and 33rd by Golfweek. Along with Johansson at fourth, other Aztec finishes included Aaron Choi at 16th, Mark Warman at 18th, Brian Miller at 25th and John Lieber at 26th.
