SAN DIEGO - San Diego State center fielder Quintin Berry has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings 2005 West Region second team. Berry, a sophomore who played his prep baseball at nearby Morse high School, completed his first season as an Aztec this year after one season at Grossmont Junior College.

Berry finished the 2005 campaign with a .419 average and led the team in runs scored (60), doubles (18) and stolen bases (18). He was the first SDSU player to finish the season hitting above the .400 mark since Steve Dietz hit .404 in 1992. In Mountain West Conference play, Berry batted .479 to finish second in the league behind teammate Jake McLintock.

He was named to the all-conference team and was also voted onto the all-tournament team at the 2005 MWC Championship. During the season, he put together a 27-game hitting streak, one shy of the school record.

Berry is the first player to receive All-Region accolades since Royce Ring (first team) and Taber Lee (second team) were honored in 2002.

The all-region squad was nominated and selected by the 34 West Regional Division I head baseball coaches.
