SFA Hammers Louisiana-Monroe

Sept. 29, 2002

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team recorded its second shutout in its third game with their 6-0 thumping of Louisiana-Monroe Sunday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are now 4-6-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Southland Conference.

It took SFA only 11 minutes to get on the scoreboard as sophomore Christy Mestayer (Houston, Texas) scored an unassisted goal at the 11:10 mark. The Ladyjacks kept the ball in front of the Indians' goal for most of the game and were right back on the offensive, this time it was freshman Sara Hernandez (Tyler, Texas) who scored the first goal of her career at the 29:36 mark. Freshman Lauren Cummings (Kingwood, Texas) closed out the first-half scoring when she scored a goal on a pass from sophomore Lauren Matkin (Wimberley, Texas).

The Ladyjacks opened the second half in the same fashion as the first, as freshman Kim Gray (Spring, Texas) netted a goal less than four minutes into the half. SFA closed out the scoring as junior Michelle LaPointe (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored consecutive goals.

The Ladyjacks conclude their four-game homestand Wednesday against Centenary. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium. Admission is free to students.
