Ladyjacks & Demons Battle to a 1-1 Tie

Nov. 3, 2002

Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. - In what has become a reoccurring theme for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team, SFA went to double overtime before deciding the outcome of their game against Northwestern State Sunday. Just like the previous three double overtime games, it ended tied, 1-1. The Ladyjacks wrap up the 2002 season with a 7-9-4 overall record and 4-4-4 in the Southland Conference.

The Ladyjacks opened the game with a quick goal, scoring less than 30 seconds into the contest. Freshman Sara Hernandez (Tyler, Texas) netted the goal on a pass from sophomore Christy Mestayer (Houston, Texas). But Northwestern State held SFA scoreless over the final 109:36 of the contest.

The Demons made a late charge to tie the game with Danielle Thomas scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute of action.

Freshman goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) finished the game with 10 saves in the 110 minutes of work.

"This was a disappointing loss," said SFA head coach Nichole Nelson. "I believe that we are a better team than the way we finished the season."
