Oct. 24, 2004

Box Score

HAMMOND, La. - Late goals by seniors Sophia Pantazis and Christie Mestayer propelled the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team to a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana Sunday afternoon in Hammond. The Ladyjacks are now 10-4-3 (.676) overall and 8-1-2 (.818).

Senior Sarah Johnson gave SFA a one-goal lead when she netted her first goal of the season at the 25:34 mark of the first half. Southeastern Louisiana tied the game less than nine minutes later and the game stayed tied at one until the 79th minute of action, when Pantazis netted the game-winning goal off a pass from junior Kim Gray. Mestayer added the game's final goal in the 88th minute of action.

Junior Natascia Michalezki went the whole game in net. She finished the game with four saves in 90 minutes of action.

"I'm extremely proud of this team today," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "This was a tough battle and we showed great determination. We really got some great leadership from our senior class today."

The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they close out the 2004 regular season at home against McNeese State. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., at the SFA Intramural Complex.
