Ladyjacks Shutout Nicholls State Freshmen spark SFA soccer victory

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team knocked off Nicholls State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Ladyjacks improve to 7-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Southland Conference.

In what is becoming a common theme for the SFA soccer team, the defense took control of the game in the first half, shutting down the Nicholls State offensive attack. The Ladyjack defense didn't allow an NSU shot in the first-half but went into the halftime tied at zero.

The Ladyjacks' offense came out in the second half and put the game away early. Freshman Lauren Cummings (Kingwood, Texas) netted the game's first goal at the 49:58 mark. SFA was back on the attack less than three minutes later when classmate Kim Gray (Spring, Texas) scored the game's second goal off a pass from sophomore Christie Mestayer (Houston, Texas).

Freshman goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) finished the game with two saves in 90 minutes of action. Michalezki picked up her fifth shutout of the season.

The Ladyjacks return to Homer Bryce Stadium Friday for the 2002 home finale against Southwest Texas. The game is slated to begin 7 p.m.
