Ladyjacks To Face Southwest Texas

Dec. 30, 2002

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team (1-7) enters tonight's match-up against Southwest Texas (2-7) looking for its second-consecutive victory. SFA defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 64-59, Saturday night at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum for its first victory of the season. The Ladyjacks were led by seniors Nathesia Wright and Amy Collins. Wright led the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Collins added 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Tonight's game is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m.

SFA vs. the Bobcats The Ladyjacks are 41-4 (.911) all-time against Southwest Texas. SFA has won the last nine meetings between the two schools. SFA won both games last year, including a 59-57 overtime victory in San Marcos, Texas.

Home Sweet Home SFA is one of the all-time winningest teams at home, with an all-time record of 308-72 (.811), including a perfect 13-0 record in 2001-02. The Ladyjacks have now won 42 of their last 45 games at home. The last time SFA lost a home game in Southland Conference play was an 88-77 setback to Sam Houston State during the 1998-99 season. The Ladyjacks are 0-1 this season at home.

Double-Doubles SFA received a huge boost from its seniors Saturday night. Nathesia Wright scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Amy Collins scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. It is the first time two Ladyjacks have recorded a double-double in the same game since Prater and Chaquita Dilworth accomplished the feat versus Northwestern State last season.

Blocking the Way Senior Amy Collins has become a defensive force in the paint. Collins leads the team and the Southland Conference with her 26 blocks (3.25 bpg), which places her among the nation's top 10. Collins set a single-game school record with seven blocks against Oklahoma earlier this season. The seven-block outing places Collins in a five-way tie for the fifth best single game total this season.

Looking Ahead ... SFA returns to action Saturday to take on McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is slated for a 6:15 p.m., start from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
