SFA to Battle Golden Hurricane

Dec. 19, 2005

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to make it two in a row, and five of its last six, when it travels to Tulsa, Okla., Wednesday to face the Golden Hurricane. The Ladyjacks enter the contest with a 5-4 (.556) overall record after surviving a scare at Centenary on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane are 6-2 (.750) overall and have won four of their last five games, but lost to Georgia Tech, 54-38, Sunday. The game against the Golden Hurricane is slated to tip off at 7 p.m., from the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla.

SFA vs. the Golden Hurricane: The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series against Tulsa, 2-1 (.667). The two teams have split the last two meetings with each team winning on its home court. The Golden Hurricane took a 73-56 decision during the 2003-04 season, and SFA rebounded with a 68-61 victory last year. The very first meeting between the two schools came in 1982-83, when the Ladyjacks recorded a 108-64 win.

196 Down, Four To Go: SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is only four wins shy of career victory No. 200. Riley currently stands at 196 all-time wins in her 11 seasons as a head coach.

Perfection: Senior LaToya Mills was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line in the Ladyjacks 95-86 victory over Centenary. With her 11 consecutive free throws, Mills tied a school record for free throw percentage in a single game. It was also the second most free throws, without a miss, by a Ladyjack in school history (Portia Hill went 13-of-13 in a game during the 1989-90 season). Mills' 11 free throws also tie her for the ninth-best mark in school history for makes in a single game.

Double-Double: Senior LaToya Mills led the Ladyjacks with a season-high 27 points and 13 rebounds at Centenary. It marked Mills' third double-double of the season, and the 22nd of her career.

Speed Limit 95: The Ladyjacks posted a season-high 95 points in their victory over Centenary. It is the first time the Ladyjacks have scored 90 points in a game since defeating Texas State, 91-68, in the 2003-04 regular-seaosn finale. It is also the most points for a Ladyjack squad since it recorded a 100-60 victory over Sam Houston State during the 1999-2000 season.

Career-High: Freshman Anitria Mosley was forced into the lineup early Saturday against Centenary after starting point guard Nikki Carr picked up her second personal foul in the second minute of the game. Mosley responded to the early playing time by posting a career-high nine points on 3-of-4 (.750) shooting. She also dished out a career-high five assists, grabbed two rebounds and recorded one steal.
