Charity Egenti Named SLC Player of the Year

March 5, 2007

NACOGDOCHES - Senior Charity Egenti was named Southland Conference Player of the Year announced league officials Monday afternoon. Egenti was one of three Ladyjacks recognized on the all-conference teams along with junior Nikki Carr, who received third-team recognition, and senior Evelyn Edwards who earned honorable mention recognition.

Egenti became the go-to player for SFA in only her second season with the team. Among the league leaders in double-doubles, she finished second in the league in scoring (16.8 ppg), and tops in the conference in rebounding (9.5 rpg). She also finished second in SLC in blocks averaging 1.8 per contest.

Egenti really stepped up her level of play with the start of the conference season. She averaged 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game during the team's final 16 games of the season.

A big-time scoring threat this past year, Egenti scored at least 20 points in a game nine times. She recorded a career-high 28 points in the Ladyjacks' game against Lamar. Egenti also finished the season with 11 double-doubles, which was second in the SLC.

After earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore, Carr continued to improve during her junior season. Carr finished second on the team averaging 10.6 points per game and was among the team leaders pulling down 4.9 rebounds a game. She was also among the league-leaders at finding the open player, finishing eighth in the league in assists (3.8 apg). Carr is also a threat on the defensive end of the floor, finishing third in the SLC in steals (2.6 spg).

Edwards earned honorable mention all-conference honors after having a career year in a Ladyjack uniform. She finished third on the team scoring (9.2 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocks (1.2 bpg).

SFA returns to action in the first round of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Championships. The second-seeded Ladyjacks will face No. 7 Lamar at noon Wednesday. The SLC Championships will be held at the Campbell Center in Houston. Admission is free to all SFA students with a valid student ID card.
