SFA Throttles Islanders on Senior Night :: Senior Charity Egenti scores a game-high 24 points in the victory

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got 24 points and nine rebounds from senior Charity Egenti Wednesday night to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 83-46, in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The victory improves SFA to 19-9 on the season and 11-4 in Southland Conference play. The win also keeps the Ladyjacks in contention for the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Championships next week in Houston, Texas.

Leading by three points early, the Ladyjacks went on a 21-2 run to build a 30-8 advantage with 8:25 remaining in the first half. SFA kept up the pressure building their lead to as many as 28 points in the opening half, before going into the locker room with a 40-16 advantage.

SFA shot 47 percent in the opening half, while holding their opponents to a 6-of-25 (24 percent) effort. The Islanders poor shooting, combined with poor rebounding allowed SFA to maintain its hefty advantage throughout the first half. The Islanders were outrebounded, 28-11, in the opening 20 minutes of play.

The Ladyjacks were never seriously challenged in the second half, building their advantage to as many as 39 points. SFA shot 51 percent from the floor in the second half, and finished the game 36-of-73 (49 percent), while holding the Islanders to a 29.8 percent performance. SFA also recorded another strong performance from beyond the arc, knocking down 7-of-15 (47 percent) shots.

SFA hammered Corpus Christi on the glass outrebounding its guests, 50-31. The Ladyjacks also got a huge boost from their bench outscoring Corpus Christi, 29-4, in that category.

Senior Evelyn Edwards closed out her final home game with a 17-point, five-rebound performance. Sophomore Natashia Green came off the bench to add 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Junior Nikki Carr wasn't heavily involved in the point column, but she did a good job of making sure everyone around her was. Carr finished the game with only two points but dished out a career-high 11 assists.

The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face UTSA. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from the Convocation Center.
