Ladyjacks Cruise Past McNeese State

Feb. 16, 2006

Box Score

NACOGDOCHES - Senior Britany Vinson scored a team-high 15 points and classmate LaToya Mills added 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Ladyjacks recorded an 88-63 victory over McNeese State Thursday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 16-7 (.696) overall and 10-2 (.833) in Southland Conference play.

McNeese State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Ladyjacks responded with a 9-2 run to take the lead and the rout was on. The Ladyjacks built their advantage to as many as 13 points in the first and went into the locker room with a 10-point advantage at halftime. SFA shot 16-of-29 (.552) from the floor and out rebounded the Cowgirls, 23-8, in the opening half.

SFA didn't let up in the second half, shooting 50 percent for the half and 32-of-61 (53 percent) for the game. The Ladyjacks didn't allow McNeese State to mount a rally of any significance, pushing their advantage to 25 points. Despite shooting 44 percent for the game, the Cowgirls were out rebounded by 24 and turned the ball over 23 times. The lone spark for McNeese State was a game-high 20 points from Courtnee' Hollins.

The lone setback, in an otherwise flawless SFA performance, was the 23 SFA turnovers, but the Ladyjacks minimized the damage from the turnovers allowing McNeese State to score only 16 points. Junior Charity Egenti recorded her first-career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kendria Smith added nine points, three rebounds and a block.

The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday Feb. 23 when they return to the William R. Johnson Coliseum to host Texas-San Antonio. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
