Feb. 7, 2004

Box Score

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got 16 points and 13 rebounds from sophomore LaToya Mills as SFA dispensed of Louisiana-Monroe, 68-53, Saturday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 5-14 (.263) overall and 5-4 (.556) in Southland Conference after picking up their third consecutive victory.

The Ladyjacks jumped out of the gate quickly building a 12-point advantage, 21-9, with 8:15 remaining in the first half. The Ladyjacks used a potent offensive attack combined with a suffocating defense to build a 36-22 halftime lead. SFA was 14-of-28 (50 percent) from the floor while holding the Lady Indians to a season-low 8-for-35 (22.9 percent) in the opening half. The Ladyjacks also outrebounded ULM, 28-17, in the opening stanza.

The Ladyjacks increased their advantage to 23 points, 47-24, with 17:39 remaining in the basketball game behind freshman Nikki Carr's 15 points on 5-of-9 (55.6 percent).

The Ladyjacks led by 20 points when Louisiana-Monroe went on a late run to cut the lead to 11 points with only 2:09 remaining, behind Mindy Livaudais's game-high 19 points. But it was too little, too late as SFA held on for the 15-point victory.

The Ladyjacks overcame 34 turnovers by shooting 22-of-52 (48.1 percent) from the floor and outrebounding ULM, 51-38. SFA held the Lady Indians to a 19-for-72 (26.4 percent) performance from the floor.

Sophomore Kendria Smith scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while classmate Kirby Killingsworth added seven points.

The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The game against the Islanders is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
