SFA Cruises Past Lady Cardinals
Jan. 28, 2006 NACOGDOCHES - Less than 48 hours after one of their worst offensive performances in school history, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks rebound with one of their best. The Ladyjacks shot 29-of-58 (.500) from the floor, including a 9-of-17 (.529) outing from beyond the three-point arc, to dispense Lamar, 86-60, Saturday in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Despite shooting over 50 percent in the first half, the Ladyjacks couldn't shake a pesky Lamar Lady Cardinal team. SFA took a 46-30 lead into halftime, but led by only four points late in the half before going on a 14-2 run to build the 16-point advantage. In the second half, the Ladyjacks were too much for Lamar, as senior Britany Vinson came off the bench to lead SFA with 19 points on 3-of-4 (.750) shooting from beyond the arc. Vinson was one of three Ladyjacks in double figures as junior Charity Egenti scored a career-high 14 points, while freshman Jamie Ansley added a career-high 11 points. When the Ladyjacks offense wasn't getting the job done, the defense stepped up to the plate. SFA out rebounded Lamar, 38-34, and blocked 11 shots. Senior Kendria Smith recorded a season-high six, while Egenti swatted a career-high five. The Lamar shot the ball well, 22-of-56 (.393), but didn't have enough gas in the tank to stay with the Ladyjacks (13-6/7-1), who entered the night in a two-tie for first place in the Southland Conference. The Lady Cards were led by Latoya Carson who scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down five rebounds. Lufkin, Texas-native Janique Garrett added 11 points in the loss. The Ladyjacks will look to make it three-in-a-row when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Prather Coliseum. -SFA- |
