'Jacks Face Homecoming Clash with McNeese State

Oct. 19, 2006

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team returns to the gridiron Saturday to face preseason Southland Conference favorite McNeese State for homecoming. The 'Jacks enter the game 1-5 (.167) overall and 1-0 in league play after their come-from-behind 24-13 victory at Texas State. The Cowboys are 2-4 (.333) on the season and 0-1 in conference play after a 27-17 setback to Texas State. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium.

SFA vs. THE COWBOYS: The Lumberjacks trail the all-time series to McNeese State, 13-10-2 (.440). The Cowboys have won three of the last four meetings between the two schools, but the Lumberjacks' lone victory during that stretch was a lopsided 55-7 win at home during the 2004 season. The Lumberjacks have had their fair share of success against McNeese State in Nacogdoches. SFA is 6-5 (.545) against the Cowboys at home.

LAST TIME vs. THE COWBOYS: Both teams entered the contest ranked among the nation's Top 25. The Lumberjacks were 4-1 on the season, while McNeese State sported a 2-1 record. The contest was originally supposed to be a home game for the Cowboys, but had to be moved to Cajun Stadium in Lafayette, La., due to the damage left by the hurricanes. The 'Jacks dug themselves an early 10-point hole in the first quarter and that proved to be the difference, as McNeese State recorded a 33-23 win. Quarterback Zeke Dixon completed 23-of-59 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns, and Danny Southall completed his only pass for a 63-yard scoring strike to Dominique Edison, but it wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit. Despite getting beat in almost every statistical category, McNeese State held on for the victory.

Up Next: The Lumberjack football team will be in Hammond, La., Saturday, Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. showdown against Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lions was moved from its original 6 p.m. start to accomdate Fox Sports Net.
