SFA DB Duo Selected to Play in All-Star Game

Sept. 21, 2006

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Senior defensive backs Keldrick Holman and Freddie Parish have been named to the Magnolia Grid Iron Classic roster announced Darry Alton, Magnolia Grid Iron Classic Director Thursday afternoon. The Classic is a collegiate all-star game that pits NCAA Division I-A players against NCAA Division I-AA athletes.

Holman is 2006 preseason All-America selection that earned first-team All-America honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette and second-team All-America honors from The Sports Network last season. A first-team All-Southland Conference selection, Holman ended his junior season with 82 tackles and was fourth in the country with six interceptions. Despite being slowed by injuries during fall camp, Holman is currently second on the team with 23 tackles, including three for losses, and one sack. He has also recorded 12 solo tackles this season.

Parish has taken on the role as a vocal leader for the defense. He currently leads the team with 26 stops, including 10 unassisted tackles. Parish has also recorded 3.5 tackles for a loss, recorded one pass breakup and recovered a fumble. He is coming off one of the best games as collegiate athlete in the 'Jacks' recent trip to Tucson, Ariz. Parish recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including seven solo stops, against the Wildcats.

The Magnolia Grid Iron Classic will be played Saturday, Dec. 23 in Jackson Miss., at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The 2006 version of the Grid Iron Classic will mark the second consecutive season that SFA has sent a representative to the game. Former Lumberjack safety, Darrell Bennett, played in the game last season.
