SFA Track and Field Has Solid Outing at TCU

April 20, 2002

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team had another solid performance Saturday, competing at the TCU Invitational. SFA walked away with four individual champions.

Seniors Adam Keul (Tyler, Texas) and Misty Ballard-Swan (Carlsbad, N.M.) led the charge in the pole vault. Keul cleared a height of 17-8.50 in the men's pole vault, to win the event. Ballard-Swan set an NCAA provisional mark when she cleared a height of 13-1.50 for the individual title.

Ballard-Swan wasn't the only Ladyjack who had a big day in Fort Worth. Sophomore Ana Rodriguez (Dallas, Texas) also came away from the TCU Invitational with an individual title. Rodriguez's time of 18:08.54 earned her top honors in the women's 5,000m. Freshman Shametra Boykins (Karnack, Texas) finished second in the triple jump with her mark of 39-11.50. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, two Ladyjacks had strong performances. Junior Bonnie McHan (Abilene, Texas) finished third with a time of 1:02.10 while classmate Katie Lonergan (Stephenville, Texas) was only 1.4 seconds back of McHan with a sixth-place finish.

Sophomore Justin Meier (Lorena, Texas) was the individual champion in the men's 1,500m run. Meier crossed the finish line first with a time of 3:57.24.

Sophomore Nathan Flores (Kingwood, Texas) set an SFA and Southland Conference record with his time of 29:27.29 in the 10,000m run at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday. His time was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark as well.

The SFA men's and women's track and field teams will return to action Saturday April 27, at the Drake Relays, in Des Moines, Iowa.
