Ladyjacks Finish Strong in Heptathlon

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin track and field team placed three Ladyjack athletes among the field's top 10 in the bronze group of the heptathlon. Senior Tracy Schupp paced the field scoring 4,709 points. Sophomore Lindsey Bryson moved from fifth to second overall Friday, recording a personal best 4,674 points. Freshman Crystal Chang improved to 10th with her score of 4,195 points.

Schupp had a solid showing in the long jump where she recorded a mark of 17-3.25 to finish third. Bryson won the long jump with a mark of 17-11.50. Bryson threw the javelin a distance of 104-11 to finish fourth in that event. Bryson capped off a strong second day of competition be leading an SFA charge in the 800-meter run. She recorded a time of 2:24.22 to finish second. Chang crossed the finish line third with a time of 2:24.30. Schupp was fourth in the 800 meters with her time of 2:27.79.

"Our three athletes did an exceptional job today," said SFA assistant coach Ron McCown. "I'm extremely proud of all three of them. This was a great opening meet. I think they will continue to improve throughout the season."

The SFA men and women's track and field teams continue their competition in the Texas A&M Multis/Relays meet Saturday at 11 a.m., with the men's and women's long jump. The track events will begin at noon with the women's steeplechase.
