(San Francisco) - After another strong week, USF senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers was named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week for volleyball. Voelckers turned in a monster weekend for the Dons as they completed the season series sweep of Gonzaga and Portland in week six of league play. The Hamburg, Germany native averaged a remarkable 6.71 kills on .297 hitting with 4.14 digs and 0.86 blocks. Entering the weekend, the 5-9 transfer from Hartford had tallied 1,928 career kills and in just seven games against the Zags and Pilots, elevated the total to 1,975.
Voelckers hammered a USF career-high 27 kills in a four game victory against Gonzaga Friday night to go along with 16 digs in her 14th double-double of the season. Saturday's match was much tougher and Voelckers responded with another big match for the Dons slamming 20 kills on .311 hitting to go along with 13 digs in the sweep of the Pilots. Voelckers was so dominant when it mattered against the Pilots she had reached her team-leading 15th double-double of the season in game two, heading into the intermission with 12 kills and 10 digs.
After entering the weekend ranked third among kills leaders in WCC matches, Voelckers now averages an impressive 4.51 kills and 3.46 digs during league play. In addition, Voelckers has not simply padded her stats against weaker opponents, collecting 4.06 kills and 3.50 digs per game against the national elite.
In addition to her formidable kills tally, Voelckers has amassed 1,318 digs, 137 service aces and 169 blocks during her strong career. Although the 27 kills against Gonzaga was a USF-high, Voelckers hammered a career-high 39 against Albany (10/28/01).
It is the second player of the week selection for USF this season and first for Voelckers. Junior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts was honored September 27 after earning tournament MVP honors at the TCU Molten Invitational.
