USF Women's Golf Competing at 2003 Northwest Invitational
Sept. 15, 2003 USF women's golf is in Sun River, OR to compete in the 2003 Northwest Invite, hosted by Oregon State at the Woodlands Golf Course Monday September 15-16. The Lady Dons, fresh off winning the 2003 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic last week in Fort Stevens, CO, look to continue their outstanding play. USF shattered numerous team and individual records last week, including team low single round (283, first round) and 54-hole tournament team low of 875 (283, 291, 301). Senior Kristi Larsen leads the Lady Dons into the week, after capturing medalist honors at the Ram with a new 54-hole low score with a five-under 211 (68, 71, 72). Sophomore Nikki Jacoby also played extremely well for USF with a new career-best of three-under 213 (71, 72, 70), good for runner-up honors. Fifteen teams are slated to participate in the tournament including the host Beavers and Washington State out of the Pac-10 along with Long Beach State, Portland State, UNLV, UC-Riverside, San Jose State, USF, Eastern Washington, Boise State, Idaho, UC-Irvine, Weber State, Portland and Texas Christian. The tournament will be played at the Woodlands Golf Course, played at a par-72 and play to 6,100 yards. USF has history at the Woodlands and competing in the event hosted by the Beavers. The Lady Dons posted a runner-up finish in the event in 2000 after carding a 911 and placed fifth in 2001 with a score of 903. San Francisco placed seventh in the event last year, then called the Shanico Invitational. USF head coach Sara Range likes what she is seeing from her team heading into competition this week in Sun River. "I hope we can continue to build off a great tournament experience last week in Colorado. I am looking forward to seeing how everyone responds to the challenges presented by a quality tournament field and the golf course," Range said.
