USF Women in 13th after Opening Round of the 2004 NCAA West Regional

(Palo Alto, CA) - USF women's golf shot an opening round 308 in the 2004 NCAA West Regional Thursday at the Stanford Golf Course and sit in 13th place with two rounds to play. San Francisco started strong on the back nine making the turn at three-over as a team, but struggled on the front. Pac-10 Champion UCLA blistered the course with a six-under 282, good for an eight shot lead against Cal at 290. The host Cardinal is in third place while competing on their home course with a 293, followed by Washington at 298. Pepperdine rounds out the top-five at 300. San Francisco is five shots back of Ohio State (303) who sits in eighth place after day one of the regional. The top eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The championships finals will be held at Grand National Lake Course, Opelika, Alabama, hosted by Auburn University on May 18-21. Senior Kristi Larsen and junior Mariko Shimozaki shot 76 to pace San Francisco. Sophomore Nikki Jacoby carded a 77 for the Lady Dons. USF returns to action for round two at the 2004 NCAA West Regional Friday. The Lady Dons are scheduled to tee off at 11:50 AM at the Stanford Golf Course.
