Ryan Katz shot a low 10-yard shot past Dons goalkeeper Scott Spaulding in the second overtime to give Fresno State a 1-0 nonconference soccer victory over USF Friday night in San Francisco.
It was an evenly played game throughout with both Spaulding and Fresno goalkeeper Jeremy Proud making key stops. Fresno State took control of the play after USF defender Raji Ananda was red-carded in the third minute of the extra session.
Fresno State (6-1-1) gained some revenge for two 1-0 USF victories over the past two seasons. USF goalkeeper Scott Spaulding, who entered the game with two straight shutouts, was brilliant, recording nine saves, but had no chance of Katzs gamewinner.
USF newcomer Mody Kane, a national team player from Senegal, made his debut, playing 10 minutes in the first half.
USF, who hosts Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. dropped to 4-5-2 on the season.
